TransGas initiates steps to resume cavern-development
On Friday, March 18, 2005, TransGas initiated steps to resume cavern-development operations at its Asquith Natural Gas Storage Project, after receiving an amended water-use licence from the project regulator, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority.
The amendments to the water-use license clarify a number of the conditions identified during an independent review of the project, conducted by the Saskatchewan Research Council. TransGas has agreed to these conditions and will operate within the established criteria.
Prior to the resumption of project operations, officials from the SWA and TransGas met with members of the Grandora Water Committee, to brief them on the terms of the amended water-use licence.
The pumps at the project source wells near Vanscoy were restarted this afternoon, to allow a safety inspection of the water pipeline. Once that is completed, cavern-washing operations will resume.
