Regulator Confirms Water Quality Issues Near Asquith Unrelated
To TransGas Cavern Development
The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority (SWA) has confirmed that
water quality issues raised by two landowners in the Asquith area
are unrelated to activities surrounding the TransGas Natural Gas
Storage Development Project.
Media reports May 25/26, 2006, indicated that two landowners near
Asquith area were experiencing water quality problems, which they
believed may have been caused by TransGas cavern mining operations.
Upon notification of these concerns, TransGas immediately contacted
the project regulator, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority, which
conducted testing on-site. Preliminary indications from the SWA
found no linkages to TransGas’ project development operations. This
has now been confirmed by the SWA and the Saskatchewan Research
Council through analysis of water chemistry from the impacted wells.
SWA has indicated the problems may be more local in nature and
related to the performance of the wells on the two properties. The
Watershed Authority continues to work with the affected landowners
Copies of the water analysis report are available by contacting
TransGas or the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority.
